Welcome to Polk County Equine Rescue
Horses continue to play an ever increasing role in everyday life across our country. Not only do they represent substantial sources of income and entertainment, but they have become a “way of life” for many, participating in the emotional and social interactions of families and friends. Just as the cat or dog has become a “member of the family”, so too, have our horses.
With an estimated 6,000 horses right here in our back yard, Polk County, North Carolina, horses and their owners participate in shows, foxhunting, hunter paces, steeplechase events, horse trials, clinics, camps and recreational trail riding.
Because of these various types of equine activities and other large animal venues, the potential for devastating accidents exist. Horses and other large animals that are found in farming communities, may find themselves trapped in culverts, mud, ponds, swimming pools, barn fires and roadside accidents involving over-turned trailers.
The POLK EQUINE EMERGENCY RESCUE TEAM has been established to ensure large animals have an emergency medical system available to provide emergency medical treatment and transportation when necessary. It is the Large Animal’s EMS, 911!
